Happy New Year!

This is it. 2010 is almost fineto. The holidays came and went, stores are already stacking the isles with Valentine’s Day goodies, and before you know it, we will all be dreading that most joyous time of the year: Bathing.Suit.Season.

As your organic beauty voice of reason, I want to take a moment to reflect on some of the natural, organic products I introduced to you this past year. Products that made a statement in the world of chemically composed beauty, which is often a difficult task. If you still have yet to try these natural beauties, make it a part of your New Year’s Resolution to do so. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

What I loved in 2010:

Homemade Goodies: http://www.beautystat.com/site/body/three-homemade-goodies-organic-products-we-love-ones-we-dont/

We can all agree that 2010 was an economic challenge. However, beauty does not have to suffer when the ropes are tight! I showed you some fabulous products you can enjoy with the help of ingredients you already have in the kitchen! Like the homemade body scrub with brown sugar and honey. It will cost you every bit of $5 (and that’s pushing it) and you will have a dependable, environmentally friendly body scrub. Close out the year in healthy, glowing skin with this super easy sugar scrub. After all, smooth skin is year round.

Reserveage Organics: http://www.beautystat.com/site/skincare/eat-drink-and-take-these-organic-pills-reservage-organics/

Eating right, working out, and shopping organically. All the steps to a healthier, happier you. Yet sometimes, Father Time has a way of working around all that and still catching up to us. Help slow him down with Reserveage Organics. This vegan, veggie pill is a great addition to your daily vitamin routine as it is safe, healthy, and effective. Trans- Resveratrol, the main component found in this line, is the natural goodness composed in the skin, seeds and stems of red wine grapes. It has the power to activate Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), or the longevity gene. Looking younger in 2011…count me in!

Amala Beauty and Aubrey Organics: http://www.beautystat.com/site/skincare/around-the-world-in-organic-beauty-part-2-amala-beauty-and-aubrey-organics/

Two different companies, two different products, both yielding natural beauty. Amala means “most pure” in Sanskrit. Need I say more? The line is environmentally friendly from the packaging of each item all the way to the core of its ingredients. I’m a huge fan of the Purifying and Hydrating lines, but don’t just take my word for it. Experience the bliss of this brand yourself. And don’t forget your gorgeous locks. Take care of those tresses with hair care from Aubrey Organics. I cannot lie: one time I had just touched up my hair with the NuStyle Organic Hairspray, and a friend of mine told me, “You smell like an angel!” Organic products that work and make my hair smell good? More please!

RE9 Advanced: http://www.beautystat.com/site/skincare/travel-companions-putting-arbonnes-re9-to-the-test/

You never know where life is going to take you, and RE9 Advanced by Arbonne was the must have on that journey. Although it’s not organic, it is made with some “pure, safe and beneficial” ingredients. Halt the signs of aging, topically, with products like Regenerating Toner, Restorative Day Crème, and Firming Body Cream. The products actually work and do not irritate the skin. A time traveler’s dream.

Dentisse Toothpaste: http://www.beautystat.com/site/makeup/dentisse-toothpaste-sex-up-your-smile/

Clean, white teeth. I am not sure if there is anyone who doesn’t want that. Enter Dentisse. Finally, a natural solution that lacks the chemicals of ordinary whitening toothpastes and packs the full punch of natural mint toothpaste. Composed of natural white kaolin clay, this paste polishes and deep cleans to reveal a healthy, sparkly smile. And long lasting fresh breath, too. Hello, New Year’s Eve kiss!

Happy New Year, dolls. Looking forward to sharing more organic, natural goodness with you in 2011!  Sweet Dreams!

10th Annual Walk for Women's Wellness

“Do not spend your life daydreaming about health. Dream big, start small and live your dreams. And you will heal.” - Darina Stoyanova

Last Saturday, my bestie and I walked at the 10th Annual Walk for Women’s Wellness sponsored by Delnor Hospital. This was actually our first time participating, and we had such a wonderful time. There was a crisp, fall chill in the air, and the excitement of all the people around us was breathtaking.

We were fashioning our matching pink Delnor t-shirts, had our walking shoes tied tight, and the pedometers were set. The 5-mile walk started at Gunnar Anderson Park in Geneva and from there went through Batavia, and then back around the Fox River Bicycle Trail. The conversation and time my bestie and I had was time I will remember forever. As we were chatting and laughing, sharing stories of both old and new, we were doing it all in the name of an amazing cause. We were doing it for all the women we know.

We walked for the wellness of our mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, friends, close acquaintances, even the smiling faces we have only met while passing by. My bestie and I were walking for the health of all those women and more. The gratification of that was simply, overwhelming.

Henry David Thoreau once said, “An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.” My bestie and I look forward to attending the 11th Annual Walk for Women’s Wellness next year. It has proven to be a few hours out of life where we can be surrounded by happy hearts, all out making a difference in the lives of themselves and of others. And by the grace of God, that is a morning blessing that I could get used to.  Sweet dreams!

Eat, Pray, Love

I couldn’t put it down. It was so good; it became more of a distraction for me when it came to doing all the other things I should be doing: writing, folding laundry, getting some extra sleep in. But, I couldn’t put it down.

First, I must say that I am disappointed in the movie. That is difficult for me to admit because Julia Roberts in my favorite actress. I think she is brilliant, talented, and one of the most beautiful dolls alive. But the movie, Eat, Pray, Love, was so far from the book that I was simply disappointed. Hollywood, as it usually does, played upon my emotions and twisted the truth. I took Momma to see it, as I wanted to do a mother-daughter day with her, and I have no regrets in our choice of movie. I just found myself calling her after every new chapter, starting the conversation with, “Remember that scene in the movie? Well, it really didn’t happen that way!”

However, I saw the movie when I was midway through the book, so when I returned to the book, I found myself even more engulfed in the characters and scenery and of course, the food. My gosh, it was written so wonderfully, I felt as if I was present in every scene.

For one, when Gilbert was in Italy, every passage I read made me hungry! And now, I find myself having a small love affair with: cheese! Yes, I cannot get enough cheese! In fact, one evening when Prince Charming was away at a meeting, Puppy joined me as I made myself a meal of mozzarella cheese with garlic and basil, organic crackers, organic cheese pizza, a glass of red wine followed by organic toffee chocolate for dessert. Delizioso!

When Gilbert was in India, I was captured by her ways of meditation. As a yogi, I often strive to find any sort of balance my body can come up with. The way Gilbert was able to meditate and find her connection to God was inspiring and gave me something to look forward to as I continue to craft my search for inner balance and strength.

Indonesia was a chapter of two kinds of love. I was entranced by the love she found for Wayan and Tutti. (And as an enthusiast of all things organic, oh how I wish I could try Wayan’s multivitamin lunch special)! I was also happy to see Gilbert let herself be loved again by Felipe. She was able to find a romance that was made just for her, not the way society defines love but the way she defined it. And with that I want to end on this thought:

Every work day, I enter the city through the train station. It’s a world of as many things new as they are the same. People from all over the planet walk through here. Some are on their way to work, some on their way to meet with friends and family, some to be first in line for a special event. The other day I missed my normal train. I had to take the “second train” which is one that I absolutely hate. The people on this train are in such a rush to get Downtown. There are so many people that board, you can hardly find a seat (and it’s only the third stop!). Still, I had no choice. So Prince Charming and I grabbed a coffee, had some extra time to chat that morning, and before too soon, I was off on the second train on my way to work. When I got to the station, after letting everyone who had to be first getting off the train, I slowly strolled myself out the door, down the stairs and through the marketplace. As I was walking, I saw a couple that I used to see all the time. They are an older couple. She is tall, thin, and classy looking. He is a tad bit shorter than her, slightly overweight, and just as elegant. She, however, walks extremely slow, having to lean on him every step she takes. Every time I see them, he holds her hand tight, and walks step-by-step with her, never making her feel uncomfortable or rushed. He talks to her and smiles, as the world of commuters literally pass them by. I usually walk on the other side of the market, slowing myself down, as I cannot take my eyes off them. Their love for each other is so strong and so real, that no matter what is going on around them, he takes his time with her, and she looks for that every morning. No matter what mood I am in, the site of them gives me such hope. I stop, close my eyes for a moment, and ask God to give Prince Charming and I that same devotion. To remember that as we grow old together, we must never forget that love is what will keep us strong. Let the world pass us by, for what we have is worth slowing down and waiting for. Sweet dreams!

Girl on Top

“You are not a statistic. You are not one of the masses. You are a Girl on Top.” - Nicole Williams

A few months ago, I had the divine opportunity to see Nicole Williams speak at an event at The Limited in Chicago. Fashion in the workplace was the topic, as well as a kick-ass session on women getting ahead in the corporate world. I was so impressed that I couldn’t wait to begin reading Girl on Top, Your Guide to Turning Dating Rules into Career Success. As I come to a close on this motivational read, I feel as if she was speaking directly to me with each and every turn of a page.

Dolls, you know my career goal is to be a professional beauty writer. My niche is organic beauty, but my passion is helping women discover environmentally-friendly products that enhance one’s true beauty. Writing is my passion. Beauty is my love. Put the two together, and this is the career of my dreams.

Currently, I am, give or take, a corporate bitch. Oh, I am very good at it, and I have gained the respect that I deserve, but I am not happy when I look at my office. I see what I have become, and although it may sound selfish, I want more. I have an entrepreneur’s spirit that burns inside of me, and I express myself best through my words in print. Sure my career now pays the bills, and as my momma has questioned me before, “Why would you want to leave a good career for the unknown?” Well, it’s because I am a risk taker, and like I said earlier, it’s because I want more.

Girl on Top reassured me that I am on the right path as I take control of my career. I am a Chi-town girl in her late 20’s with my career as my driving force. I have followed the rules up until now. Yes, I went to college and earned my Bachelor’s and my Master’s, I bought my first house all on my own, I bought my first new car, and I have learned the streets and neighborhoods of Chicago like the back of my pretty, eco-friendly manicured hand. But the time has come to fulfill my writing dream. I have so much to say, and I want women just like you to get the chance to hear me. I think it will change the way you shop for beauty and the way you look at your naturally, beautiful self. It will encourage you, challenge you, and although you may not always agree with what I have to say, you are at least reading. What more could a writer ask for?

Girl on Top has given me a new outlook on a lot of things. First of all, my business wardrobe. Not realizing I was already breaking two of the fashion no-no rules (all one color i.e. black, and wearing gym shoes or sandals with my suit when I walk in the Loop), I have fashionably made changes where changes were due. Also, Williams reassured me that it’s ok not to want to settle down and have a family just because everyone else is. Prince Charming and I are happy just the way we are, and since we are in no rush to change things (like get married and have little bambinos) careers and each other can continue to be the main focus in our lives. It works for us, and frankly, that’s all that should matter.

Finally, when all of my freelance writing pays off and one day when some big publication takes me onboard to be their beauty columnist, Girl on Top gave me something to think about when it comes to quitting the current career I am in. You know, how to break it to boss-who-thinks-they-are-more-important-than-life and how to do it professionally and in style. The last thing I want to do is burn any bridges, but I want to make sure they remember what they lost. Williams puts career success in perspective, and for me, it continues to reassure me that this path I am on is exactly where I need to be to get to the position of being the Girl on Top.

P.S. I, too, look forward to celebrating my writing success with a fell-in-love-at-first-sight Birkin. Williams will tell you, it’s the accessory of all accessories that defines a girl of success!  Sweet dreams!

Change

“The kind of beauty I want is the hard-to-get kind that comes from within – strength, courage, dignity.” -     Ruby Dee

Change is something beautiful.  It opens your eyes to things you never thought were possible. One of the biggest changes in my life has been the switch to organic beauty. It requires dedication and patience. Like many forms of change, organic beauty can be overwhelming and at times, confusing, but I am here to try and ease that out. No one said it was simple, but I always love a challenge!

Organic beauty is a mindset and a lifestyle. It is a way to give back to your bod some of the best products out there without causing harm to your health. If you haven’t already, you need stop reading and watch The Story of Cosmetics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfq000AF1i8&feature=youtube_gdata   It’s a great way to see in black and white, simple stick figure cartoons exactly what you need to know before you go to the beauty counter. Yes, it is scary, but it still needs to be said! Every day you buy products with ingredients that you cannot pronounce or understand, you are free willingly putting toxins and various cancer causing substances into your beautiful body! How is that fair after all you do for yourself to keep healthy? Well, it’s not, and that is where change comes into play.

My two biggest preachings are to educate yourself on what is out there and do not get lazy when you shop! Do the research on products. Start simple: avoid products with parabens and sulfates. Look for items that contain the USDA organic seal. Take small steps in creating a beauty world that is worthy of you!

Judy Garland once said, “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.” You deserve nothing but the best. You wouldn’t do something to hurt yourself, so why purchase high glam’ beauty products that are known to cause hideous problems to your health? You have a right to know what you are putting on your body, so make sure it is pure, natural, and free of any harmful ingredients. Like I mentioned before, this transition won’t happen overnight. But, the sooner we get started, the healthier your body will be. After all, your naturally, beautiful skin is worth it!  Sweet dreams!

Wine + Chocolate = Love

Did you ever read something that changed your life? I try to learn something new every day. Sometimes, even two things, if I get lucky.

Momma gave me Heal Your Heart with Wine and Chocolate by Debora Yost this past Easter. Dolls, I know you hear me preach night and day about organic beauty and all the God givin’ goodness of natural products. But let’s talk about something that deserves our attention whether you follow my words or not: your heart. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women. Did you know that? It’s ok if you didn’t because you will learn about it in this brilliant book. (Plus, I don’t want you to stress over this…it’s not good on your heart!).

I can’t do the book justice in just one blog, but I can say that it has really changed my outlook on my life. Since this book, I have altered the way I eat, the way I look at nutrition labels, even the way I look at myself. I don’t know it all, but one thing I do know is that I have one life to live (never got into that show…sorry, getting off track). I want to live the healthiest, greenest, most beautiful way I can. This lifestyle doesn’t happen overnight, and I don’t expect it to. But everyday, I am making smarter, healthier choices. And yes, I do it for me. No one else is going to, and as the book permits, I need to put myself first. (My Dad used to tease me by saying I am the center of the universe…Dad, you may be on to something).

If you get the chance to borrow or buy this book, I highly recommend you do so. If not for anything do it for the intriguing, oh-so-seductive title: Heal Your Heart with Wine and Chocolate. If it weren’t for my efforts to maintain a healthy heart, I think I might have died and gone to Heaven.  Sweet dreams!

Pretty Woman

Edward Lewis. Vivian Ward. It’s hard to believe that Pretty Woman celebrates its glamorous 20 year anniversary this year. Released on March 23, 1990, little girl fantasies were forever changed by this renewed, fairytale classic.

The first time I watched it was at my Gram’s house. She, too, was a pretty woman from the inside out. This movie was her favorite, and through her many nights of babysitting me and allowing me to pick any movie I wanted, this movie became a part of me. No matter how many times I watched it; there was something magical about the film. Maybe it was Mr. Thompson at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, or that amazing shopping spree on Rodeo Drive. It was probably when the fairytale came true for Vivian. As Edward climbed up the tower and rescued her, Vivian rescues him right back. With a rocking soundtrack and an unforgettable wardrobe, I continue to be captivated by this box-office hit time and time again.

Pretty Woman will forever remain my top choice for love stories. Every time I watch it I laugh, I cry a tear or two, and I admire the script and acting of a movie that has been referenced even 20 years past its release. Because no one will ever forget that first time they heard, “In case I forget to tell you later, I had a really good time tonight.” Sweet Dreams!

A Beautiful Face

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

Coco Chanel

There is one thing I cannot leave the house without: a beautiful face. It can make or break my day. When my face is glowing with the perfect amount of foundation, the smooth, wet look of color on my pout, and my eyes sparkling, life can hand me anything, and I feel sexy.

I didn’t always feel like this though. For the longest time, I struggled with finding the perfect blend of color for my face. Makeup was either too heavy, causing me to break out and look cakey (yuck!), or it was not enough coverage, therefore making me second guess myself if I needed to add more (leading me back to the whole cakey look!). It was a constant battle, and I was doubtful if I was ever going to win.

Until one day, I was invited to “Girls Nite Out” at About Face + Body in Geneva, IL (http://www.aboutfaceplusbody.com/home.html). I called up the girls, and we headed on over to the organic beauty store to enjoy treats, yum-o sips, and meet Ms. Marti Spenk of Angel Face Makeup (http://angelfacemakeup.net/). Spenk is a professional makeup artist and hair stylist with over 25 years in the beauty industry. Her career is dedicated to the art of makeup, with a background in theater, photography, and movie makeup as well as working for MAC, Estee Lauder, and Beauty on Call.

Angel Face Makeup is a company in which Spenk provides makeup and hair services on location. Whether it’s for a wedding or a fabulous night out, Spenk and her team will be there to make sure you look stunning.

When I first met Spenk, I explained the struggles I was going through trying to find the perfect makeup for my fair skin. After a brief consultation, Spenk recommended the Alima Pure brand to me. The products are pure and cruelty-free. Before I knew it, I looked flawless in a Balancing Primer Powder, Satin Matte Foundation, and Bronzer (http://www.alimapure.com/). My face was so smooth and touchable. Was this really my skin I was gazing at? Now every morning after my Alima Pure routine, I not only look classy, but I feel beautiful, too!

Plus, the 100% recycled fiber that the makeup comes packaged in contains unique beauty tips. My fav thus far, #47: Embrace your face. The lines here and there define your character.” Sweet dreams!

Viva Las Vegas!

“We want you to feel like Goldilocks…where everything is just right.”

When my massage therapist said that to me, I knew I was in first-class care.

Hello, dolls! So sorry for the time away from you! Crazy at work, then I went on vacation, and although I am still on vacation, I had to share with you my latest spa experience…in Vegas, baby!

Yes, Prince Charming and I went to Las Vegas and had a fabulous time. We always like to stay someplace new. This time it was Caesars Palace (not the real Caesars Palace.  Sorry, couldn’t help myself, lol). The pool was amazing and the rooms were beautiful. Prince Charming and I tried new restaurants (American Fish at Aria) and visited some of our all-time fav’s (sitting outside watching the Fountains of Bellagio at Mon Ami Gabi). It was a yum-o experience, but wait! You have got to hear about my amazing spa day at Qua.

First of all, the spa is huge. It is so accommodating and luxurious. Prince Charming and I booked massages, of course. He had the Classic Massage, which uses Swedish massage techniques, and I had the Stone Massage with Aromatherapy, which was a delightful massage incorporating hot stones.

What really stood out, though, were the Roman Rituals. Everything from Roman Baths, varying in temperatures and sizes allowing the body to relax and heal itself, to the Laconium Room, where the warm sauna circulates through the body permitting physical and mental harmony. However, the part of the Roman Rituals that was oh-so-astonishing was the Arctic Ice Room. At a cool 55 degrees, with pieces of snow falling to the floor, this refreshing room allows stress to drift away as the body unwinds and skin feels tight and renewed.

This spa/vacation get-a-way was the place Prince Charming and I needed to escape reality and remember to enjoy every moment of life. Either soaking up my vitamin D (safely) in the sun, or catching a fun and flirty performance of Zumanity, Vegas was the ultimate prescription for relaxation. And the perfect way to end the trip was a win on the Sex and the City penny slot. That’s right, dolls! Within two minutes, I was winning Big in the bonus round…or at least he was congratulating me on my good fortune! Sweet Dreams!

Clarisonic Mia

Ernie had Rubber Ducky. I have Clarisonic Mia.

I love this little device as it redefines my skin in ways I could have only dreamed of. I, like many of you, love facials. When I would get home from one, I’d try to recreate the facial into my daily cleansing routine. However, I often fell short of this little challenge, mainly because my hands began to hurt after 3 minutes of massaging cleansers into my skin.

Until one unforgettable facial came along. “What was that marvelous machine?,” I thought. Only to be introduced to the Clarisonic, the cleansing skin care system with over 300 movements per second to reveal clean, refreshed, healthy skin.

So for my birthday, my loving family all pitched in and bought me the Clarisonic Mia (in pink, of course, to support Breast Cancer Research). Since then, it has been love at first wash. It pulsates for 60 seconds before shutting off to give skin a deep, intense cleanse. I usually use it for 2 minutes at a time, primarily for the extra cleansing my skin can always use. It's also great because the Mia is a travel size, so my pretty in pink tag-a-long is good wherever I go.

And just when things couldn’t get any better, the device comes with three 1fl oz bottles of cleanser: nourishing care, refreshing gel, and gentle hydro. What’s not more to love…they are all paraben free! Somebody pinch me because I think I just went to beauty heaven and back!

Earth Day

Last Thursday, April 22, was Earth Day. The day has been around for over 40 years now, but for some reason this year’s Earth Day meant something more to me than it has in the past.

Over the last few months, I have really gotten into the organic mindset. I try to buy organic foods, organic beauty products, and even organic treats for Puppy whenever possible. Prince Charming has caught onto my organic ways, too. This year he focused my Valentine’s Day and birthday presents around green living, with adorable reusable bags, an earth friendly yoga set, even a book called "Green Chic". It’s a great way to live, and so far, I feel better about myself both inside and out as I help the planet in my own way.

Another reason Earth Day was so wonderful was because selected stores rewarded people for thinking green. Take Origins for example. If you brought in an empty skincare container, any size, you got a full sized cleaner free! I was recommended to try “Checks and Balances” face wash, great for both dry and oily skin. The 5 fl. oz. container I received was made from 30% post consumer plastics while the cap was made from 100% recycled plastics. A clean complexion while doing my part with recyclable skincare bottles... does life get any better than that?

One thing to remember, dolls, is that Earth Day may be marked as one calendar day but should be treated as every day of the year. This planet is ours to make our own. Let’s keep it green and pretty. It can be recycling, using glass containers instead of plastic, driving a hybrid car, even walking instead of driving. Big or small, let’s do our part to preserve this beautiful land we love.

Light the Way

Literally. When I walked into an Aveda salon on my birthday last Tuesday, I wanted to treat myself to something pampering, yet good for the environment. Tough combo to mix, right? I saw the new Light the Way, Lavender Sox Wax candle, and I knew this was the feel-good gift for me. Right on the box, it states, “100% of purchase price helps protect clean water.” Hmm...

Clean water. Did I even stop to think what that statement truly means? Just this morning, I brushed my teeth, took a long shower, used the facilities, drank a bottle of water, washed my hands, and much more without thinking twice, and I am suddenly reminded that clean water is a luxury. It’s a privilege. How can that be? And what can I do to make a difference?

This candle has the soothing scent of lavender mixed in with the unforgettable signature aroma of Aveda. It is only 3.5 oz and will cost around $12, but it is money well spent. I couldn’t wait to write this blog because I wanted to get the word out on this feel-good buy. Even if you don’t burn candles, just display it someplace and enjoy the fragrance as you pass along.

Everyone deserves a chance at clean water. Whether you turn off the water when brushing your teeth, take shorter showers in the morning, or simply purchase this candle, you are making a difference, and it is one you should be oh-so-proud of. You are beautiful, and every little action you take to make the world a better place, well, that’s just plain brilliant! Light the Way, Dolls!

Ladies Day Out

Hello Dolls!

Last Saturday, Momma and I went to “Ladies Day Out” at Delnor in St. Charles. This was our second year attending, and of course, we had a fabulous time. After all, it was a few hours of life where we could chat about whatever we wanted, eat fabulous gourmet food, and (one again) try to win perfect prizes. Although no prizes were won (again) I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend my Saturday afternoon.

After we checked in and received our sporty Delnor bags filled with information and goodies, we grabbed our Starbucks java and got ready for the event to begin.

First on the agenda was the fabulous speaker, Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP. She is so knowledgeable and so funny! I love learning about keeping my body healthy when she teaches it. If you ever get the chance to hear Bancroft speak in person, I highly recommend you do so.

After the keynote speaker, Momma and I got to choose a smaller session to attend: “Your Healthiest Self At Any Age.” We were able to learn about all the recommended testing that should be preformed on women as they age. This session was very informative. Plus, it was good just to learn alongside the lady that taught me how to be my healthiest self in the first place.

Soon it was time for lunch. Oh, the yum-o choices. We both went with the “Fresh and Healthy,” which contained salads, soups, fish, and a carving station. It was very tasty. With every bite, I felt as if I was already making healthier choices. Top it off with refreshing lemonade, a little calcium (ah hem) I mean ice cream, and we were ready for round two of the event.

The rest of the afternoon involved, another small session, “Living the Life You Want,” which taught women how to slow down, take time for themselves, and learn how to deal with the many stresses, a woman’s life can bring. It was followed by a fashion show put on by Uncommon Threads Fine Line Creative Arts Center. The ladies walked the runway in one-of-a-kind garments (which were absolutely stunning). The day wrapped up with amazing raffle prizes. It was nice to see so many smiling faces, as it was a day of true pampering of the mind, soul, and spirit.

At the end of the evening, Prince Charming and I celebrated my parent’s 36th wedding anniversary with some yum-o Chinese dinner in the atmosphere of a cool spring night in our backyard patio. It was such a wonderful day. I can only hope Momma wants to attend this special event with me for many years to come.

Cupcakes: The Popular Group

Is it me or are cupcakes the new pink? Just a few years ago, the world was against anything that was sweet, delicious, and oh yea, contained calories! Nowadays, it’s a fashion statement to be seen with a delicate, gorgeous little pastry in hand.

And it’s not just a local thing, this cupcake craze we are witnessing. Nope, stars like Carrie Underwood are dropping the idea of a big fancy wedding cake for a nuptial dessert of cupcakes! So, I too, will take my love for all things sweet and go public with it. I am on a cupcake mission. I want to try all the different versions, varieties and designs of cupcakes out there. I know it’s a tough job, but some gal’s gotta do it.

So last Friday, I tried a Sweet Miss Giving’s (SMG) Red Velvet cupcake. It was a purchase I not only enjoyed but felt good about. Over 50% of the Sweet Miss Giving’s profits go to help the formerly homeless and HIV/AIDS-affected men, women and children of Chicago House. So, I gladly went to the Chicago French Market and got two Red Velvet beauties for $1 (thanks Daily Candy for the coupon)! And yes, one was for Prince Charming…

Sweet Miss Giving’s Red Velvet cupcake was soft, sugary, and topped with decadent, smooth-and-creamy cream cheese frosting. Yum-o! Plus it comes in a cute little cupcake container so the toping never gets smashed. Brilliant! Not to mention safe for the cupcake’s journey.

Today, Prince Charming bought me a Starbucks Red Velvet cupcake. Now, I love my Starbucks coffee, but I wasn’t sure about this little delight. Much to my surprise, its presentation is adorable. This cupcake comes in a little box. It was a present made just for my taste buds and only costs $1.85! When I opened the box, the little cake was absolutely delish. Again, chocolately, pretty with sprinkle accessories, and more of that irresistible cream cheese frosting. I ate this cake with a fork, but was still able to enjoy every last crummy. For a coffee company, Starbucks can have their cake and eat it, too!

Well, the wonderful world of cupcakes awaits me. Until then, what’s your favorite cupcake? Come-on, tell me your decadent little secret. Sweet dreams!

Easter Ensamble

“Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.” – Vivienne Westwood

Hello dolls! Spring is here, and you know what that means: Easter is just around the corner! Prince Charming and I decided to invite family and friends over this year for fabulous food and memorable moments. The menu is all set. Thanks to Google (and the search for easy ways to prepare an elegant Easter dinner) we will be serving ham, salmon, fancy salads, and yum-o desserts! Add some vino, a little sunshine and the day should be a delight! However, I am really excited to show off my new Easter ensemble. It is so choice...for it’s all about the ruffles!

Yes, ruffles are in this season, and they are nothing but fun to work with. Flirty, feminine and fabulous, the ruffles are the perfect choice to flatter your figure and show your girly side this spring. Of course, I will let you all in on my fashion and beauty secrets (what kind of fashionista would I be if I did not?). This Sunday’s preference came from…Kohl’s! Yes, ladies. Fashion can be affordable (and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise)! Elle, one of my favorite lines there, has a gorgeous new style filled with pretty pieces all sporting the ruffled look. I will be pairing a "Vanilla Ice" blouse with the fashionable, "Ruffled Open-Front Cardigan." Top it off with sparkly accessories and pair it with slimming black pants and I will be, as Momma would say, the hostess with the mostess! Ha-ha, I love it! What Easter ensamble will you be stylin’?

Sweet Pea Me!

Hello. Sweet Pea here. This being my first blog, I want to thank you all for taking the time to get to know me and (fingers crossed) my dreams of reaching women and men all over the world who want to look and feel their very best, from the inside out of course! I love beauty and fashion and what better way than for me to start a blog! So, let's get started.

As we begin a new week, and are on the verge of starting spring weather (again fingers crossed), I can't help but get excited to start anew. I've done my spring cleaning (special shot-out to Prince Charming, aka boyfriend, for all of his help with that), and cleaned out my closet bringing the springy clothes to the front and my stylish sweaters to the back. Oh, I didn't push the sweater's too far behind. I live in Chicago people; I know better than that.

I am just excited to see the days lasting longer, that sweet spring smell in the air, and the snow far out of sight! It's a beautiful thing, peeps!

Well, Puppy is sleeping which means it is probably time for me to catch some beauty sleep of my own. Thought for the night: "What are you most excited about this spring?" Sweet dreams!
